Way back in 1978, Government of Gujarat introduced a novel concept by establishing an entrepreneur-friendly organisation - iNDEXTb - which is pioneering of its kind in the country. Registered as a Society under Societies Act, 1860, the Bureau is manned by professionals in various fields to assist entrepreneurs in facilitating early fructification of their industrial projects in Gujarat. Over a period of time, many novel activities were added to the service basket of the Bureau. Broad areas of functioning of the Bureau are as under:

Investment promotion both in industrial and infrastructure projects, acting as a single point contact
Promoting NRI and foreign direct investments
Coordination with various departments of the state and central Governments
Coordination with chambers of commerce and industries associations
Monitoring implementation of industrial approvals
Acts as the Secretarial of the high powered Gujarat Industrial Promotion Board.
Administering joint publicity campaign for the State Industries Administration and promotional organizations
Organizing investment promotion campaigns at different potential centres in India and abroad
Identifying new investment opportunities and preparing project profiles
Preparing and publishing status reports and status papers on different industrial sectors

Preparing and publishing area potentiality surveys

Assisting SMEs for technology sourcing and technology transfer
Serving the information needs of exporters and providing market intelligence
Acts as the Secretariat for Gujarat International Trade Promotion Council.
Recently, opened a state-of-the-art Business Centre to serve as the Project Office for the use of company executives visiting Gandhinagar

Running a medium sized computer centre to cater to the computerization requirements of different organisations on commercial basis.
 

The Bureau acts as the marketing arm of Government of Gujarat, strengthening the image of Gujarat as the most investor-friendly destination in the country.

At the top, a Governing Body comprising Industries Commissioner, Gujarat as the Chairman with Managing Directors of all the promotional organisations, renowned persons in the field and Presidents of the representative bodies of industries serving as the members. The Managing Director of the Bureau as the Member Secretary of the Governing Body is the Chief Executive under whose superintendence and guidance, all the activities are carried out.
